Standard SS7G1
Locate selected features of Africa.
a. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map: the Sahara, Sahel, savanna, tropical rain forest, Congo River, Niger River, Nile River, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Victoria, Atlas Mountains, and Kalahari Desert.
b. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map the countries of, Democratic Republic of the Congo (Zaire), Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Sudan
Monday - Students completed an introductory activity on Africa. In groups, they wrote down perceptions of Africa then watched a video clip - afterwards we discussed if/how perceptions changed. NHW
Tuesday - Students filed previous test and graded notebook. Then students used atlases to label a political and physical map of Africa. NHW
Wednesday - We looked at and discussed different types of maps (land use, growing season, rainfall, etc.) of Africa. Afterwards, students read a short article on farming in Malawi and filled in a graphic organizer.NHW
Thursday - We discussed yesterday's article. Afterwards, students completed (and turned in for a grade) a physical map packet - pratice reading different types of maps of Africa using student atlases. NHW
Friday - Class Geography Bee. NHW
