January 17-21

Monday - MLK Holiday

Tuesday - We went over/corrected answers to the African history atlas packet (from Wed. 1/5/11) and the African history background questions (from Thurs. 1/6/11).  NHW

Wednesday - Students worked individually or with a partner to read first person accounts of the slave trade.  As they read each account, they filled in facts on a graphic organizer.  The graphic organizer was the advantages and disadvantages of the slave trade for both Europeans and Africans.  NHW

Thursday - We went over the graphic organizer from yesterday.  Afterward, students used the World History Atlases to complete an worksheet on European imperialism in Africa. This worksheet was for a grade.  NHW

Friday - Graded worksheets (from yesterday were handed back).  Brief introduction to the Berlin Conference and Scramble for Africa.  Students read a handout with 6 major "legacies" of colonization and filled in another graphic organizer (Scramble for Africa) w/ the effects (economic, social & political) of colonization. NHW
