March 14-18

Standards for this week -> ->

SS7G9 the student will locate selected features in Southern and Eastern Asia.

a. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map: Ganges River, Huang He (Yellow River), Indus River, Mekong River, Yangtze (Chang Jiang) River, Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean, Sea of Japan, South China Sea, Yellow Sea, Gobi Desert , Taklimakan Desert, Himalayan Mountains, and Korean Peninsula.
b. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map the countries of China, India, Indonesia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, and Vietnam.
SS7G11 The student will explain the impact of location, climate, physical characteristics, distribution of natural resources, and population distribution on Southern and Eastern Asia.

a. Describe the impact climate and location has on population distribution in Southern and Eastern Asia.
b. Describe how the mountain, desert, and water features of Southern and Eastern Asia have affected the population in terms of where people live, the types of work they do, and how they travel.

Monday - We began a new unit on the geography of Southern and Eastern Asia.  Students worked on an atlas packet to locate the countries & capitals & read and fill in information on population, climate, etc.  Students also received grades on Friday's test and overall average in my class. NHW

Tuesday - I graded student sponge pages.  Afterwards, we went over the correct answers for 1/2 the atlas packet (from yesterday).   Then we looked @ how the earthquake happened & how earthquakes cause tsunamis.  Afterwards, students viewed pictures of the devastation near Sendai, Japan - photos from cnn.com, earthquake diagram from nytimes.com.  Notebooks will be turned in tomorrow.

Wednesday - Students turned in their old notebooks (Govt/Econ of Africa Unit) and received a new TOC. We finished correcting the Asia atlas packet from Monday.  Afterwards, students labeled a political and physical map of Southern and Eastern Asia.  NHW

Thursday - Students completed a vocabulary sheet on the geography of Southern and Eastern Asia and wrote sentences with six of the vocabulary words.  NHW

Friday - Students went to computer lab 906 to look up information/statistics on countries of South and East Asia (geography & people).  We will graph some of this information on class in Monday.  **If you were absent today a copy of the handout we used in class can be found under "Assignments/Handouts" on the right side of my blog.  NHW
